In his review for The New York Times in 1990, Vincent Canby called “My 20th Century” “a number of wondrous things,” adding that it was awarded the Caméra D’Or at the 1989 Cannes Festival “for very good reason.” The film is about twin sisters, Dóra and Lili (both played by Dorota Segda), who were separated in 1880s Bucharest after being kidnapped by two different duplicitous men.
